How to avoid water diseases after an earthquake

After an earthquake, drinking water, other surface water, mud and silt and open bodies of water may pose some health risks as damage to sewerage and water systems may emerge.

Here are tips and pointers to prevent getting sick from stomach bugs and other illnesses:

  • Boil tap water for at least 3 minutes before drinking, brushing teeth or washing or preparing foods.
  • Avoid contacting with sewage and stay away from river, sea water or any other surface water since these might be contaminated with damaged sewage.
  • Used as little water as possible when flushing your toilet, otherwise, make a temporary toilet with a bin with two plastic bags. Cover the bin after using. Bury the contents later.
  • Alcohol gel is a good alternative to soap and gel.

Is alcohol taking over

How will you know if alcohol already have had asserted its power over you? Is alcohol taking over you? Seat back and feel free to ask the following questions to yourself, this will just take few minutes of your time though:

Do I drink more alcohol that I used to? A question about helping you discern if your dosage improved from time to time.

Do I drink more often that I used to? A question about helping you discern if you developed into an individual that drinks regularly.

Do I use alcohol to overcome stress or get away from problems? A question about helping you discern if you are depending on booze to get rejuvenated or to keep away from problems. Bear in mind that problems are still there the next day even if you drink now. It’s just a temporary escape from reality.

Does a friend, relative or family member expressed concerns about my drinking habits? This just implies that there is a tell-tale sign that there is problem already with regard to your drinking habits.

Is it hard to go without alcohol for a week? If you cannot let a week pass by without drinking, this is a sign that you are getting addicted with drinking already.

Do I feel uncomfortable when others abstain from alcohol? Because you are already hooked with drinking it will bother you if someone from your drinking mates especially your bosom friend will not be present for a bingeing or drinking session.

Do I hide from others the amount of liquor I consume? This is just implies that you linger to have a power on what amount of booze you are going to drink. You feel like you are unstoppable with your habits even at the expense of hiding it. Alas, you do this because you developed the liking of not letting others mind your drinking habit.

If you answer at least one yes from these set of questions it is high time to make an endeavor to regulate your drinking since just one yes answer will imply that you are addicted to booze already.

The British Ambassador Samaritan in the Philippines

I read about the good deeds of British Ambassador Peter Beckingham and his wife Jill Beckingham.
This two lovely couple played a vital role in the building of what is touted to be the largest school made from recycled materials in the world, The Philippine Christian Foundation (PCF), located in Vitas, Tondo. This area is one of the poorest in the country and scavenging is the way of life here. The PCF have uplift the lives of about 400 students and it owes its existence to UK Ambassador to the Philippines and his wife Jill (the number one supporter of PCF).

The poverty that the country is experiencing right now have gone from worse to worst especially in many urban areas across the country like Tondo, Manila , where dumpsites have become a refuge to thousands of scavengers, whose survival depends on the garbages collected all across Metro Manila. This is a very sad state that the Philippines is encountering now. The Philippines is the country of extremes where the poorest of the poor and the richest of the rich intermingle in the social stream. Here the rich will further get richer while the poor will get poorer, and its normal to see cars (some luxurious and expensive) plying the roads and sad sights of trash-picking and beggars hoping for alms are common in almost all corners of the country.

But still, the residents have something to cheer about, for they have benefactors and supporters with genuine heart and compassion. Two of them is the wonderful husband and wife duo of Peter and Jill Beckingham.

Introduced to her five (5) years ago to the PCF project, Jill beckingham become the staunchest supporter of this worthwile endeavor. She helped raised funds with her creative ways by using her position, influence and wit, like bringing visiting compatriots to the PCF to show the accomplisments of British like her. Her efforts enabled the PCF to raise several millions of pesos from personal and corporate donations (also includes the local corporations).

The Beckinghams departed late last month but their legacy will forever be emblazoned in the Filipino’s heart and mind especially to those who personally felt their tender love and care. Jill Beckingham quipped, “We still have 50% left of the new school to complete and once it ‘s open, we need to cover the running costs. Feeding the children alone will cost 750,000 Philippine pesos a month. I will knock on the doors of whoever has funds to give. The’re still so much more that needs to be done…” Well said from a great invidual in Jill Beckingham.

Thanks and Farewell Beckinghams the Filipinos will not waver in cherishing all your good deeds. May you continue to make difference in many more people’s lives.

Some Important Facts and Brief History About Gold

In Egypt, gold is regarded as the absolute property of pharaohs and their gods. The tomb of Tutankhamen, discovered in 1922, was filled with priceless treasures of gold. Even his coffin was made of solid gold.

In Greece, according to some historians, Alexander the Great was “drawn initially into Asia by the fabled gold treasure of Persia.” It is reported that thousands of beasts of burden were pressed into service by his army to carry the gold he seized in Persia back to Greece. As a result, Greece became a gold-rich nation.

In Rome, one historian reports that “emperors freely used gold to secure the loyalty of their officials and to influence dignitaries in other lands. They impressed and often intimidated their people with the magnificence of their wealth, easily established by displays of spectacular golden ornaments.” The Romans acquired much gold from their conquest of Spain and their acquisition of Spanish gold mines, says one source.

Today, gold is one of the most treasured metals ever found beneath the earth’s surface. Because man has deep affinity to this precious metal, it is no wonder that powerful nations such as United States of America consider gold possession as the basis of one’s wealth and purchasing power. In this regard, the US governments still hoards these precious metals including silver – they buy gold coins, gold bullion, silver bullion and silver coins while the above ground production is low, and the world demand is high.
