Earthquake Devastates Chile
Another powerful earthquake struck another country this time, though it is in Chile. A month after Haiti experience the same fate that left many lives killed and many building and houses destroyed.
The tremor with a magnitude of 8.8 flattened Chile, claiming at least 214 people, bamboozled buildings and triggered a tsunami.
According to Chilean President Michele Bachelet said that 1.5 million people was affected by the quake and about half a million homes were badly damaged.
Telephone and power lines were paralyzed, while several building fell like house of cards literally even as a television image clip showed cars being plastered by a collapsed multi-storey parking garage.
Chile experienced massive earthquake before. The 9.5 magnitue earthquake, in 1960 wreaked havoc on Valdivia, taking 1,655 lives and triggered a powerful tsunami which battered Eastern Islands which many miles away and reached as far as Hawaii, Japan and the Philippines.
