10 Netiquette for Dummies / Essential Internet Etiquette

Internet is a place where there are some sort of protocols that needs to be followed by the users. If you step on the line and misbehave while chatting or making an e-mail, the worse case scenario is that you might receive brickbats and tirades from other Internet users and unfortunately slams you with hurtful words that will indicate disappointments with your antics. Try to project a professional image even if you are in the internet this shows that you are a well reared person living in a civilized world.

Here are some forbidden things that you should avoid to keep you away from any trouble on the web.

1. It is forbidden to send chain letters on the Internet.
2. Don’t allow yourself to take part in flame arguments or start fire thread in any forums you visit in any website that offer this feature.
3. Secure the integrity of the copyright of any materials, don’t plagiarize and/or be responsible with your published works.
4. Send the message to the right person. Make sure that the e-mail address of the intended recipient is correct.
5. Proofread your work for any faulty grammars, wrong spellings and typographical errors, before publishing.
6. Do not use acronyms that are not familiar to the people you are conveying your message(s) through e-mail or chatting.
7. Be generous enough to give constructive feedback on the documents sent to you. Give them some corrections in a nice manner.
8. Do not use ALL CAPS when typing. This is synonymous to shouting. Limit the length of the lines to less than 65 characters. Carriage returns should be used with your end lines.
9. The subject heading must be related to the contents of the entire message.
10. You may opt to use digispeak once in a while, but not always.
