The Stirring E-Jeepney Plying The Makati City Roads
During inauguration of the Philippine President and Vice President last June 30, 2010, Benigno Noynoy Aquino was aboard a white land cruiser, but not to be outdone is his Veep Jejomar Binay who stole the thunder by riding in an environment friendly e-jeepney during the celebration.
The Philippine jeepney is truly one of a kind and distinct. This modern king of the road in the country is an amalgam of Filipino creativity and resourcefulness, as its inception materialized by recycling the jeeps left by the Americans during the World War II. Indeed, the jeepney has become one of the main transportation for millions of Filipinos all across the archipelago from then on. This vehicle is not only sturdy but it is also spacious since it can accommodate up to 17 passengers at a time, which is enormous for its sheer size.
The jeepney made a great transformation for it is now turned into an eco-friendly vehicle that plies the roads of Makati City, the bulwark of Jejomar Binay. The e-jeepney can also accommodate around 17 people, and can travel at a maximum speed of just 40 km/hr (a ploy that discourages drivers from bcoming reckless). The e-jeepney just like the green cars that is slowly becoming popular in industrialized countries in the world can be recharged using electricity. Yes, since it harnesses electricity the e-jeepney doesn’t emit smoke that is harmful to the environment.
And last but not the least an e-jeepney costs around half million pesos (around $11,000) and is lighter compared to its cousins.
When you are in the business district of Makati City in the Philippines I think it is worth trying to experience riding in the lavishly designed and colorfully painted e-jeepney.
